Service Description

For a few writers I offer one-on-one mentoring sessions for writers, which are personalized Q&A and coaching discussions to help you navigate the writing industry and your development as an author. This is a flexible, mentorship-style service driven by your needs – ask me anything about the writing life, publishing, and building a career as an author. Industry Q&A: Not sure how to approach querying agents? Curious about the traditional publishing process, or whether to consider self-publishing? Wondering how to find the right writing community or critique group? In these sessions, you can tap into my knowledge of the industry. I’ll share honest insights on all your burning questions about publishing and the writing world. Career Development Coaching: We can discuss your long-term goals as a writer and brainstorm strategies to reach them. Topics might include developing your author brand/platform, improving productivity and writing habits, dealing with rejection and perseverance, or choosing what project to work on next. Think of this as a friendly coaching session to help you chart your path in the YA/spec fic market. YA/Spec Fic Market Insight: If you write YA or speculative fiction, I can offer perspective on current trends in these genres, what agents/editors might be looking for, and how to position yourself while staying true to your vision. (No “marketability assessment” buzzwords – just practical advice tailored to your genre.) Flexible Format: Mentoring sessions are typically 60-minute Zoom/Skype calls (or phone, if you prefer). They are informal but focused – usually starting with you outlining your questions or challenges, and then we dive in from there. It’s your hour to pick my brain, troubleshoot issues, and get encouragement. Follow-Up Support: After our call, you’ll receive a brief recap email highlighting key points, resources mentioned, or next steps to keep you on track. Please be aware I don't offer specific editorial support as part of this service, but can do this through the other services. If you have a quick question or update later, I encourage an occasional email – I love keeping up with my mentees’ progress!

Cancellation Policy

Non-Refundable Deposit To secure your booking, a £20 non-refundable deposit (of the total service fee) is required at the time of booking. This deposit covers administrative and scheduling costs, and is non-refundable if you cancel the service. The rest of the payment is required once I've confirmed availability. This is relevant to all events and services. Client Cancellations Author Services: You can cancel the service up to 7 days before I begin the work. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after the work has begun. Events/Workshops & Talks: You can cancel the service up to 21 days before the scheduled event. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after this period. Rescheduling Option: Instead of canceling, you may request to reschedule your event/service for a later date - for example if you would like to submit a different or edited document, or schedule the event for a different day/time. Rescheduling is subject to availability and mutual agreement. If a new date is arranged, your deposit and any payments already made will be applied to the rescheduled booking. Provider Cancellations In the unlikely event that I am unable to accept or complete the work due to other commitments, timing issues, or unforeseen circumstances, you will be offered the following options: Full Refund: A 100% refund of all payments you have made, including the 20% deposit. Reschedule: The opportunity to reschedule the service to a later date that works for both of us. Transfer to Another Service or Product: The option to apply your payment toward another event or editorial service or product offered by me, as an alternative to a direct refund. Please be aware when working on editorial services I may decline to work on any documents which I feel exhibit intentional racism, transphobia, sexism or ablism but will discuss this first. Cancellation Process All cancellation or rescheduling requests must be submitted in writing via email. Please include your name, project details, and the booking date in your email. I will acknowledge your cancellation or reschedule request in writing. I strive to handle all cancellations and rescheduling requests kindly, promptly and fairly, ensuring a smooth experience for both parties.
